Jam Cruisers can take advantage of a full-service spa, fitness center, impressive casino, pools, hot tubs, and gorgeous spots throughout the ship to take in the beautiful surroundings. Turkuaz made their Jam Cruise debut in 2017 and came back nearly every year after until seven members left the band in November 2021 under contentious circumstances. Those seven musicians founded Cool Cool Cool and have been on both cruises since Turkuaz dissolved. So there was a sense of pride in watching said musicians serve as an ace backing band for living legends Harrison and Belew. “This music is so vocal-heavy and I often do this a lot with bands, I often rehearse harmonies separately,” Lebo said before detailing the reason. If you’re doing rock n’ roll quartet it’s no big deal – but in this kind of thing where there’s a lot of vocals – I’ll get together with the people who are singing harmonies first and we get that all dialed in.M.

As I joyfully sauntered up to the front of the A-FUN crowd, it took less than a minute to find my Frasco-loving aficionados. The set contained some of the heart-punching favorites and a wildly rockin’ guitar threesome sit-in with Eckels, Mihali and Brandon “Taz” Niederauer (the 20-year-old guitar prodigy and Yale student who has been on the boat since he was a wee shredder). “Give it up for the guitar players – fuck yes” exclaimed Frasco after each player shredded their faces off and proceeded to drop into genuine childlike playtime, dragging each other across the floor, doing backward rolls, and grinning from ear to ear all the while not letting up on the licks. Now if you aren’t familiar with Joe Marcinek, who is quite the musical virtuosos and ringleader.

Being the water baby I am, I spent a few serene hours slowly making my way back towards the cruise port, stopping at every single gorgeous stretch of beach along the way. Guitarist Al Schnier nailed it by wishing a good morning to those at the idyllic Garden Pool for his hour-long solo set on Monday. Is typically the afternoon, it’s likely most there had just gotten up after music on Sunday went deep into the night.

Lettuce followed by showcasing a full force in a funk-forward set on the Pool Deck. As seasoned vets on the ship, their set was a welcomed breath of returning home to the funk, gooey center of the live-music lollipop. The rest of the night was literally chock-full of hard-to-choose musical selections, with The New Deal, The Bamboos, and Neighbor all sharing set times, followed by undeniably talented supergroup The Word, SunSquabi, and a “new” band, Cool Cool Cool, that you must familiarize yourself with. I had recently seen The Word at Denver Comes Alive so I blasted off to Jamtronica-Future Fun trio Sunsquabi, before heading to an intimate triple Cool-ing in the Jam Room. I already knew that Jam Cruise was going to be a true full circle moment, a return back to more purpose, a welcome push out of my comfort zone, and a re-committment to loosening up and really embracing fun, a “best week ever” type thing, you could definitely say. I metaphorically pinched myself as I packed and prepared – “I really get to pack all of my favorite clothes and run around with all sorts of friends on a boat listening to the most epic jams with some of my favorite musicians?
Curated by Rebel + Muse, power duo teachers Melanie and Kaleo Wassman (the later part of Californian Rock band Pepper). A juicy ground-centered flow targeted the back, which we all delighted in as we inhaled life force into each scrumptious asana pose. Even though I was running on fumes, I decided to completely seize the last day, not wasting a minute and sponging up every last glorious moment with cruise friends, fond and fresh alike. Neo-Jazz-Soul-Hop group from Richmond, Butcher Brown, set an entire sunset mood on the Pool Deck – thankfully I caught the last bit, before scooting back across the boat to the Theater for the long-awaited Cool Cool Cool show. You might recognize these high-energy players from Turkuaz, as this newly birthed group is sailing seas uncharted.
Jam Cruise Announces Lineup for 19th Edition
Other artist-hosted activities that break the barrier between artist and fan will also be included. In addition to the music taking place across eight stages, artists will participate in curated activities around the ship. Jam Cruise 20 will also feature the return of the Brews at Sea, Chefs at Sea and Wellness at Sea programs. Galactic featuring Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Lotus, Steel Pulse, Franc Moody, Dumpstaphunk, The New Mastersounds are more of the acts set to perform aboard Jam Cruise 20. Others include Keller Williams (solo and Grateful Grass featuring The HillBenders), Ivan & Friends, Krasno Moore Project, TAUK More featuring The Horn Section, Chali 2na & Cut Chemist, Perpetual Groove, Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country and over a dozen additional artists. Over the years, Jam Cruise has built a remarkable community from around the globe.
With a fine selection of handpicked wisdom, advice, and humor from the amazing “lifers” and “repeat offenders” on the Jam Cruisers Facebook group, I embarked on an adventure I had been unknowingly training for a decade plus. It’s okay though because my three new best friends and I toasted our bottle of champagne that we had delivered to our room and took some important moments to hug, thank, and enjoy each other’s company without thousands of people around. Once we were saddled up and ready to ride, we opted for some Butcher Brown in the lounge before catching the not to be missed second Oteil & Friends set in the theater. The length of the trip, which is typically five nights, but slated for six this go-around, truly allows individuals to immerse themselves in the experience. The duration is just enough to ease from the “real world” into the bliss of presence, to serendipitously slip into the “I can do whatever the heck I want and be totally myself and celebrated” mindset. During the expedition, the ship will make stops in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic and have two days at the private island Ocean Cay in the Bahamas.

Guitarist Eric Krasno and bassist Ross James filled the Black & White Lounge in leading a Jimi’s Dead tribute to the music of the Grateful Dead and Jimi Hendrix. Kraz, a Jam Cruise regular, frequently called upon his legion of comrades aboard JC20 to help out during the set. Yet the biggest highlight in a set filled with them came when Daniel Donato and Karl Denson emerged for “Shakedown Street.” Karl D. Three generations of Jam Cruise favorites joined forces to deliver a version of the GD classic that stands with any previously played in the trip’s history. Cuban superstar Cimafunk nearly had his set canceled when a ripper of a storm with fierce winds and heavy rains enveloped the MSC Divina.
If you want to save money, opt for route taxis, a service that runs like buses and picks up others along the way. No matter where you go on the island, you'll be dancing to reggae beats and feeling the good-time vibe of this global phenomenon. You can drive down the scenic roads of Montego Bay, hike to the rushing waterfalls of Ocho Rios, and go horseback riding by the shore in Falmouth. Well, shoot…looks like we are going to take another detour here, as I think it’s necessary to set the mood for a few of the special spots that deserve a more, in-depth nod to set the scene.
The rhythm section consisted of bassist Marc Friedman (The Slip, Ryan Montbleau Band) and drummer Michael Carubba (Cool Cool Cool, Remain In Light Band). Cool Cool Cool vocalists Elias, Sammi Garett and Josh Schwartz did the bulk of the singing along with Lebo. Dan rounded out the main ensemble with keyboardist Chris Spies (Honey Island Swamp Band, Matador Soul Sounds), percussionist Yahuba Garcia-Torres (Remain In Light Band, Percy Hill) and Schwartz’s Cool Cool Cool/The Horn Section cohorts trumpeter Chris Brouwers and tenor saxophonist Greg Sanderson. Organizers Cloud 9 Adventures enlisted Marc Brownstein, Duane Betts, Kanika Moore, Cris Jacobs, Adryon de León, Lyle Divinsky and Elise Testone as Special Guests for the trip. Plus, the Masters Camp At Sea program returns with instructors Eric Krasno, Nikki Glaspie, Nigel Hall, Vaylor Trucks, Ross James, George Porter Jr., Stanton Moore, Jimi’s Dead and Matt Butler.
And while the midnight slot in the Black & White didn’t play into their particular style of music, I look forward to seeing a headlining show and hearing the band’s upcoming new album. The quartet particularly shined on catchy new number “Pair Of Shoes” and a slightly extended “Resilience,” the first song Larson ever wrote. Daniel Donato made quite an impression on Jam Cruise 19 last year as a member of Trouble No More but had the opportunity to show off his Cosmic Country outfit this time around. The quartet impressed over the course of their 75-minute performance, drawing the bulk of the bulk of the people on the trip to the Pool Deck. Keyboardist Nathan “Sugar Leg” Aronowitz has the same youthful and innovative approach as his boss while bassist Will McGee was deep in the pocket all set. Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country came out of the gates strong with “Hi-Country.” The highlight of the frame arrived late via an outrageous “Weathervane” featuring an excursion through Irving Berlin’s “Blue Skies.” The well-jammed sequence was funky as hell and truly out of the box.
Today, Jam Cruise announced the highly anticipated lineup and complete details for the 19th edition of the adored concert vacation at sea. Jam Cruise is renowned for its exclusivity, top-tier performances and stunning stops across the Caribbean. The ship will leave a port in Miami, Fla. on Feb. 6 and spend six nights at sea before returning on Feb. 12.

Today, the folks behind the upcoming event dropped the daily schedules for the sold-out tropical event. Cruise to Jamaica, the birthplace of reggae which gave the world the soundtrack of its relaxed lifestyle, good-time-loving people and fearless optimism. As soon as you arrive, you'll sense how much this destination honors the sensibilities of its musical export.
I had been very excited to finally catch Daniel Donato, who was playing his solo acoustic solo at the Garden Pool, stripping down his cosmic country sound to a backyard pool level for a slight peek into his guitar prowess that would be fully showcased as the week carried on. One of the bands I was also very excited to see (for the sheer rareness of the opportunity) was Cymande, a renowned British funk group that is a pillar in the making of the genre back in the seventies. Lamentably, their Pool Deck set was pretty much fully canceled due to unsafe weather (thankfully they had another set scheduled for the Pantheon Theatre later on).
The ensemble’s frame featured an extensive sit-in by Lamar Williams Jr. and appearances by other guests, Roosevelt Collier, Ivan Neville, Isaiah Sharkey and Denson. The set gave attendees a glimpse at the cosmic connection between musicians, ignited by the excitement of the final night aboard. A “When In Rome” moment during Lettuce’s second set of the trip, which took place in the theater late-night on Monday. Fadeaway.” Most know Lettuce previously presented Jerry Garcia Band tributes and long ago recorded a take on “Shakedown Street,” yet “West L.A.” was right in the band’s wheelhouse. Nigel Hall took care of bass duties via synth on a rendition the Jam Cruise staples made their own.
